Intramersive Media LLC is looking to cast 6 roles for their upcoming October show, Daemonologie: Smoke and Mirrors. This event will require an in person audition, a minimum of 10 rehearsals and 11 performances. Rehearsals will be Sundays and Wednesdays in September. A preview will be Wednesday Oct 2 and performances will run Friday and Saturday nights Oct 6 - Nov 5 with one show a night. This is a paid position. For some roles there may be opportunities to do engagements with the museum and it’s other exhibits.
Intramersive Media LLC is an immersive game theatre company that is dedicated to developing original works that allows the audience to be involved with our stories and worlds as they unfold. Part LARP, part immersive theatre show, Intramersive Media is always looking for actors who are interested in exploring a character and a world in depth. We ask our actors to be able to play their characters for a long period of time, while interacting with each other and the guests. Actors who have Historical Interpretation, LARP or Murdery Mystery Theatre experience are encouraged but you do not need this background to audition for us.
This show will take place in October, 1849 in Salem MA. The show is a social event hosted by Narciso Machado, who has invited everyone to his house tonight to experience the mysterious powers of his young Irish maid, Hanora (already cast), who can speak to the spirits.
Role Descriptions
Narciso Machado (male identifying, 20' to 30's) a Cuban national who is the middle son of a wealthy plantation owner. Narciso has a bit of an unearned but uncontested, playboy reputation. He has a fascination with the emerging science around spiritualism and animal magnetism.
Alphe or Delphine (mid 20’s to mid 30’s) a person of Afro Caribbean descent who is Narciso’s half sibling. Narciso has taken him/her under his wing in his business and they are looking to make their own way outside the family plantation business.
Mary Peabody Mann (Female Identifying, Mid 30’s to mid 40’s) a woman who has dedicated her life to educational reform, especially concerning access to education for women, people of color and indigenous people. She is married to Horace Mann at this time, who is not present at this gathering. She is a woman who is skeptical of the rich and flamboyant but she is interested in her host and the household he keeps because of his intellectual curiosity and his staunch abolitionist philosophy.
Sophia Peabody Hawthorne (Female Identifying, Mid 30’s to 40) An accomplished artist and diarist who suffers from terrible migraines. Married to Nathaniel Hawthorne and mother (at this point) to two young children. She is a transcendentalist and tends towards being a recluse but is a woman who will fiercely defend those close to her. She is also the younger sister of Mary. The two of them traveled to Cuba in their youth to treat Sophia’s migraines where they befriended a young Narciso.
Nathaniel Hawthorne (Male Identifying, Mid 40’s to Early 50’s) Hawthorne is a reclusive man who adores his wife. He probably would rather be at home but he came out at his wife’s imploring. Hawthorne is still grieving his mother who passed just over a year ago and he has recently lost his job as Surveyor for the District of Salem and Beverly and Inspector of the Revenue for the Port of Salem and is struggling to write. Sophia thought getting him out of the house might help change his mood. He is about a year away from writing The Scarlet Letter.
Mrs. Mary Kelley (Female Identifying 30’s to 60’s) Mrs. Kelley is the Head Cook of the household and takes her role of the de facto lady of the house very seriously. She adores her employer and would do nothing to endanger her position with him. She left Ireland after the first year of the Hunger and sponsored her niece Hanora to come be a maid in the house.
